Admission to the Program

Applicants must have earned a degree equivalent to fulfilling the requirements for a Ìýor Ìýwith a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA from a college accredited by the American Chemical Society or equivalent. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are required. All applications must be approved by the faculty of the Department of .

Students who wish to complete the Clinical Biochemistry track and do not have the appropriate background will be expected to take Ìýand Ìýas prerequisite work.

Degree Requirements

  • 30 credit hours of approved graduate work, constituting a unified program

Note: Each student must have a proposed curriculum approved by the department's academic advisor and the department chair within one semester after entering the program.

  • Capstone Experience:Ìý
    • Applied Chemistry or Clinical Biochemistry specialization:
      • Coursework: Complete one of the following:
        • Ìý(6 credit hours required)
        • Ìý(3 credit hours required) and Ìý(3 credit hours required) (with grade of B or better)
      • Thesis of publishable quality based on original chemical laboratory research must be presented at a public seminar and defended before the student's committee immediately thereafter. A research proposal must be accepted by the student's thesis committee at least one semester prior to the oral defense of the thesis
    • Chemistry and Society specialization: Complete one of the following:
      • Ìý(3 credit hours required)
      • Ìý(3 credit hours required) (with grade of B or better)
  • Specializations: Applied Chemistry;ÌýChemistry and Society;ÌýClinical Biochemistry
