"I am honored to join the Board of Directors of this outstanding organization devoted to racial justice and equality under the law,鈥 Fairfax said. 鈥淔or nearly 50 years since its founding at the urging of President John F. Kennedy, the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights has been at the forefront of the ongoing effort to protect civil rights."

The is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, formed in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy to mobilize the nation鈥檚 leading lawyers as agents for change in the Civil Rights Movement. Today, the Lawyers鈥 Committee uses legal advocacy to achieve racial justice, fighting inside and outside the courts to ensure that Black people and other people of color have the voice, opportunity, and power to make the promises of our democracy real.The members of the Lawyers鈥 Committee Board of Directors hail from the nation鈥檚 leading private law firms, corporations, and academic institutions. These Board members serve in an engaged advisory capacity, participating on various committees, expanding the organization鈥檚 network and supporters, and often engaging in pro bono legal work themselves.

Fairfax has long been an advocate for racial justice and has worked with organizations such as the Lawyers' Committee, the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc.
