Bio

Sweta Patel is a partner at Bruckheim & Patel, a litigation firm specializing in criminal defense, civil litigation, and family law. In her role at the firm, she oversees the growth and management of the practice. Sweta has focused her career litigating a wide range of cases from DUIs to drug trafficking and other serious felonies as lead counsel. She is an active member of the Criminal Justice Act panel of D.C. Superior Court and D.C. Court of Appeals where she represents indigent clients with criminal and appellate cases.



Prior to joining Bruckheim & Patel, Sweta worked as an associate attorney in private practice focusing on federal and criminal litigation in the District. She began her career as an assistant public defender in Tampa, Florida. In addition to teaching Pre-trial Litigation at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Washington College of Law, Sweta is an instructor for Continuing Legal Education courses through the DC Bar and previously served as coach for the Mock Trial Society at WCL.



During the pendency of her scholastic career, Sweta interned for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, Legal Services of Greater Miami, and the Honorable Judge Maxine Cohen Lando of the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida. She served as the symposium editor of her law school’s Intercultural Human Rights Law Review, received honors in legal writing and trial advocacy, and played a vital role in the successful bid to elect Florida State Senator Eleanor Sobel.



Sweta received her Juris Doctorate at the St. Thomas University School of Law and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Political Science from Florida State University.
