Bio

Asha Scielzo is the Director of the nationally ranked Health Law and Policy Program at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Washington College of Law. As an Adjunct Professor of Law, she teaches a variety of experiential and innovative courses on the topics of health care fraud and abuse, corporate compliance, governance, digital health, and health care business transactions. She also leads the law school’s Health Care Compliance Certificate, which is nationally accredited by the Compliance Certification Board.

A leader in the health law academic community, Professor Scielzo has assisted several law schools with the development of health law curricula for their JD, LLM, and Master of Law programs. She teaches Health Care Compliance, Ethics & Governance as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.

Professor Scielzo brings over 20 years of health care industry experience (including 15 years of large law firm practice) to the classroom. As a practitioner, she concentrated her practice on a broad range of health care compliance, regulatory, and transactional matters, with expertise in fraud and abuse counseling, compliance program structuring and implementation, and hospital-physician transactions.

Professor Scielzo is privileged to serve as the President of the American Health Law Association (2024-2025), the nation’s largest, 501(c)(3) educational organization devoted to legal issues in the health care field. Previously, she served as Chair of the AHLA Board Finance Committee, Education Committee, and Diversity+Inclusion Council. Professor Scielzo is also a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics, a nonprofit educational organization with the mission of providing high-quality scholarship, debate, and critical thought for professionals at the intersection of law, medicine, and ethics. She serves on the Board of Directors of the South Asian Bar Association of Washington, D.C., a volunteer-led bar association dedicated to the needs, concerns, and interests of the South Asian legal community in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Professor Scielzo is deeply committed to mentoring law students and early career health law professionals to support them in developing rewarding and impactful careers. She is a faculty advisor for the law school’s South Asian Law Students Association.

Prior to attending law school, Professor Scielzo worked as a health care strategy analyst for the Advisory Board Company in Washington, D.C. With a background in science, she co-authored several articles published in distinguished clinical journals such as the Journal of the American Medical Association and Critical Care Medicine. Professor Scielzo is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (B.A. 1995) and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 1999, cum laude).
