Tuition Assistance

The Frank H. Menaker Corporate Integrity Initiative Ìýprovides financial support to accepted participants in the annual Â鶹ÊÓƵWCL Anti-Corruption Law Summer Certificate and CLE Program who demonstrate a commitment to and would benefit from training on corporate integrity and ethics and who need financial support to participate.

DEADLINE TO APPLY: MAY 29, 2023.

Sponsored by the Frank H. Menaker Corporate Integrity Initiative, limited tuition support may be available for 1-4 courses.

Because financial assistance is provided on a rolling basis, applicants should submit their financial assistance requests as soon as possible.

To be eligible for financial support, the candidate must:

  • Have prior experience in or demonstrate the benefit of training on corporate ethics and integrity.ÌýÌý (Experience may be in the public, private or non-profit sectors, including in the prosecution, defense or adjudication of cases, ethics and compliance practice,Ìý teaching, advocacy or media); and,
  • Hold a LawÌý degree from an accredited law school or work in the legal sphere.

Applicants for financial support must provide all of the following:Ìý

  • Statement of experience with and interest in corporate integrity (1 - 2 pages, written in English); Please indicate whether experience is in the public, private or non-profit sectors and whether in practice, teaching, advocacy, media or other fields;
  • Reason why financial support is needed and amount requested;
  • CV;
  • Letter of recommendation (in English); and,
  • Any other documentation in support of the application.

1) Where should I send the documents in support of my application for financial support?Ìý Please send all documents to anti-corruption@wcl.american.eduÌý

2) About the English proficiency, do we need to take some kind of exam, like the TOEFL? All international applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. International students may demonstrate proficiency by submitting an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 580 or a Michigan test score of at least 74. It is also possible to demonstrate proficiency by submitting a written certificate of proficiency from an accredited language institute. The requirements stated above are waived for applicants who hold a degree from an accredited institution in the United States or any other English-speaking country.

You can also submit a brief statement indicating that you are proficient and how you became so. For instance, if you have attended an English speaking or bilingual High School, have resided for a reasonable period of time in an English speaking country, or have been raised in an English speaking environment. We need evidence that shows that your level of English is high enough for you to take advantages of the courses.

3) When you said "any other documents in support of the application," what do you mean exactly? Any other documents in support of the application could include, cases, publications, awards, certificates, participation in conferences.

4)Ìý How and when will applications be considered? As financial support is limited, all applications received by the May 29, 2023.Ìýdeadline will be considered as a group with a view to providing at least some support to the greatest number of participants.Ìý Applications received after the deadline will be considered based on need and funds available.Ìý
