Memorandum May 15, 2017

To:
Â鶹ÊÓƵ Community
From:
David Dower, Assistant Vice President Planning and Project Management
Subject:
Army Corps of Engineers Resumption of Activities

With the relocation of the Department of Public Safety to the East Campus, Â鶹ÊÓƵ will demolish the Public Safety building located on the south end of campus, beginning on or about June 1, 2017. The university anticipates that this work will take several weeks and require the staging and use of heavy construction equipment at the site.

Because of this work, members of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ community should anticipate an increase in traffic in that area and the Fletcher Gate. While the area will be marked with appropriate signage and fencing, as with all active construction projects, you are advised to use caution if you are in the vicinity.

After the Public Safety building is demolished, the university expects the Army Corps of Engineers to conduct additional remediation activities in that area. However, the Army Corps work is subject to the development and approval of work plans by the Army Corps, Environmental Protection Agency, D.C. Department of the Environment, and Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Consequently, the university does not expect this work to begin until later in the Fall 2017 semester.

We will provide additional information as helpful or needed as the work progresses.
