Summer 2024 Housing

Summer housing is available to returning Â鶹ÊÓƵ undergraduate students who are:
- Registered as an undergraduate or graduate/professional student at the University for the Summer 2024 semester or
- Registered for the Fall 2024 semester and registered for on campus housing for the academic year 2024-2025

Students will be housed inÌýConstitution Hall ²¹²Ô»åÌýThe Frequency Apartments for the summer of 2024. Only double occupancy rooms will be offered.
All rooms are fully furnished. Additional information about each hall, including our virtual tours, can be found on each hall's webpage.
Summer Housing DatesÌý
Summer housing will start on Tuesday, May 14th and will conclude on Monday, August 12th. The last day to move in is Monday, July 22nd.
Summer Housing Rates 2024
Summer housing is billed to the student's Eagle Service account. A daily rate, with a minimum stay of 21 days (3 weeks), is used for summer housing.
All available rooms are designed for two residents.
Rates for Summer 2024 will be announced late Spring 2024 semester.Ìý
Below is the daily rate for each summer room-type for 2024. To determine your cost for summer housing, please take the number of daysÌýyou requested (a minimum of 21 days) and multiply that by the daily rate for the room-type you selected.

Applying for Summer Housing
The summer housing application will open to undergraduate students on April 4, 2024. Details about the application will be shared with students via their Â鶹ÊÓƵ e-mail during theÌýSpring 2024 semester.Ìý
- Apply by Sunday, April 14th, and you will receive your assignment on Friday, April 19th.
- If you apply after Sunday, April 14th, we will make assignments each Monday on a rolling basis.
To apply, log into yourÌý and select "Summer Student 2024" within the Housing Application. There is no deadline to apply, but students should apply at leastÌý10 business days prior to their requested move-in date.Ìý
The application will allow you to select a preference ofÌýhall (ConstitutionÌýor Frequency) and dates of occupancy. A minimum of 21 days (3 weeks) is required when requesting summer housing.
CancelingÌýSummer Housing
To cancel, please e-mail housing@american.edu and state the reason you wish to cancel. Title the e-mail 'Summer Housing Cancellation.'
Any student who applies for and receives a housing assignment for the Summer TermÌýand subsequently cancels the housing assignment will be responsible for the following cancellation fees:Ìý
- A student who has not moved in and who cancels the housing assignment more than 48 hours before their scheduled move-in day will not receive a cancellation fee.Ìý
- A student who has not moved in and who cancels the housing assignment less than 48 hours before their scheduled move-in dayÌýwill be charged for seven days in their assigned room as a cancellation fee.Ìý
- A student who moves in and then cancels the housing assignment will be charged for the full duration of their assignment.Ìý

I'm moving in May 14, how and when can I check-in?
When & how do I check in?
- Living on-campus for the spring: You will remain in your spring housing assignment until Tuesday, May 14. You will then move into your summer housing assigment on Tuesday, May 14Ìýbetween 10am-4pm. Follow these twoÌýsteps to complete your spring to summer transition:
- First, complete an Express Self Check-Out in the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Housing Portal as you depart your spring housing assignement.
- Second, arrive at the check-in location (see locations below) for your summer housing assignment to complete check-in.
- Living off-campus for the spring: Summer housing opens on Tuesday, May 14Ìýat 10am. Students can request to move in on or after this date. When you're ready to move-in, arrive at the check-in location (see locations below) for your summer housing assignment to complete check-in.

Moving Out Before August 12, 2024:

- Move-out carts may not be available during check-out. We encourage you to pack to move-out your items without a cart.
- Steps to Check-Out:
- First, remove all items personal belongings from the room, dispose of all unwanted items in approriate locations, clean your space and return all furniture to it's location at move-in.
- Second, visit the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Housing Portal to complete Self Check-Out.
- After completing Self-Check Out in the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Housing Portal, where do I check-out?

Moving Out on August 12, 2024:

- Living off-campus for the fall: Students residing off-campus for the fall semester must move out of summer housing by Monday, August 12. HRL will share further details in advance.

If I'm living on campus now, can I stay in my current spring room for the summer?
If you have aÌýspring housing assignment, unfortunatelyÌýwe are unable to allow you to remain in your academic year room.Ìý
Are the residence hall policies different over the summer?
Summer policies are the same as the academic year. Please review the Summer Housing and LicenseÌýAgreement linked on this page and Student Conduct Code.

Will I have a roommate as a summer resident?
All summer 2024Ìýhousing assignments in Constitution Hall and Frequency Apartments will be in double occupancy rooms. Summer residents should expect a roommate.
When will I know if I am confirmed for summer housing?
We anticipate being able to house all applicants who meet the academic and date requirements for summer housing:
- Eligibility: If you meet the eligibility based on summer enrollment or fall enrollment and an on-campus housing assignment.
- Date: A minimum of 21 days (3 weeks) is required when requesting summer housing.
How will mail and packages be handled in the summer?
Mail and packages will be handled differently based on the hall where each student resides. Please visit the Mail and Packages webpage for specific instructions for ConstitutionÌýHall residents.
- Summer Constitution Residents - Mail Services will start receiving packages for summer residents on Monday, May 13. (To be confirmed).
- Summer Frequency Residents - Â鶹ÊÓƵ Mail Services does not manage Frequency mail. All mail and packages are delivered directly to the Frequency. Summer residents should ensure their mail and packages arrive on or after the date they are scheduled to move in.
