Bruce Weinrod Adjunct Professorial Lecturer SIS Faculty

Bio
Bruce Weinrod has taught graduate courses and lectured on US foreign and national security policy, and has extensive senior-level US government foreign and national security policy experience.


As a Presidentially-appointed senior Department of Defense official, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy and at a later point as the (dual-hatted) Defense Advisor to the US Mission at NATO and the Secretary of Defense Representative for Europe (and also served for a time as Acting U.S. Ambassador to NATO). In those positions, he worked closely with the US State Department and also participated frequently in senior National Security Council and other US government interagency meetings. On Capitol Hill, Mr. Weinrod served as a Legislative Director and foreign policy/defense advisor for a US Senator.

Mr. Weinrod has also been a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. a Distinguished Research Fellow at the US National Defense University, a Leadership Fellow (based in Japan) of the Japan Society, and serves as an HFX Fellow and also on the Advisory Board of the Halifax International Security Forum. He was a US Senate-confirmed Board member of the Board of the US Institute and served as Chairman of its Research and Studies Committee.

In the private sector, Mr. Weinrod is an international business advisor focusing on US national security laws and regulations. A US Army veteran, Mr. Weinrod has a J.D. from the Georgetown University School of Law, an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in Government and History from Â鶹ÊÓƵ. He is a member of the DC Bar and the Council on Foreign Relations.

He has published numerous papers, journal articles monographs and book chapters on foreign policy and national security issues; also lectured and presented papers at policy conferences/seminars etc. in the US,, Europe and Asia including the International Institute for Strategic Studies (UK), the Ditchley Foundation (UK), Royal Institute for International Affairs UK), NATO Defense College (Rome), George C Marshall Center (Germany), Geneva Center for Security Studies (Geneva), Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (Germany), Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Germany), Hanns Seidel Foundation, Germany), The Henry Jackson Society (UK), Okazaki Institute (Japan), Japan Center for International Relations (Tokyo).
