Administrative History

The Friends of Nigeria, founded in 1996, is the official alumni association for Nigeria Peace Corps Volunteers. Its mission is to educate the public about Nigeria, to promote policies consistent with the Peace Corps experience, to promote continued service to Nigerian people, and to keep its members information about events in Nigeria. There were two previous Friends of Nigeria organizations. The first was active in the 1970s and second from 1987 until 1991.

Scope and Content Note

The archive consists of annual reports, budgets, by-laws, financial records, legal documents, membership directories, minutes, and newsletters. Also included are newsletters from two earlier organizations of Peace Corps Volunteers who served in Nigeria. Of note are audio recordings, correspondence, memoirs and photographs contributed by individual Peace Corps Volunteers depicting their experiences in Nigeria.

Provenance

The Friends of Nigeria established their Archive at Â鶹ÊÓƵ in 2010.
